E85 or Gasoline more power?

I recently saw a thread insinuating that E85 gives better performance. I was always under the impression that E85 burned less efficiently and produced lower power and mpg. What's the deal?

Thanks

E85 has less energy conversion than gasoline. it takes more E85 to make the same power as gasoline. if your normal MPG with gas is 25 then with E85 it will be close to 14

A car will make more power on E85 than it will on gasoline. It will however require more fuel to do it, as the stoichiometric ratio of E85 is different than that of gasoline.

if it didnt make more power then it wouldnt be used in racing, where milage is not as much an issue

I don't think the difference is that high. I believe its closer to 25 gas, 20 with E85

That right. I only do about 4mpg less with E85 then with 87 regular. If it's $1 - $1.20 less than 87 a gallon I buy it.

Alcohol is used in racing because it burns cooler than gasoline and can be used at a higher compression with out engine knock but they need to use almost twice as much to make power, this is why they now use nitromethane
