thanx for the compliments first off, CH if you got a buddy willin to help with lots of tools go for it!! first thing i would do is pull the top material off the roof and check for rust damage there chevelles were known for this!!
the next time someone offers 150 bucks tell them they might get a bumper for that much!
those bucket seats usually bring 4-6 hundred a set, the console another 4-6 etc...
if yours is an original bucket seat car you have a great car to start with! probably 80% of malibu/chevelles were bench seat cars!!

hey scaleguy where were you at the JC Whitneys show???

CH,
I'd say keep it and restore it. Those old Chevelles are hard to come by these days (at least originals, not the knockoff clone cars). I'm a first time restorer myself, but couldn't pass up this deal on eBay. Maybe we can share the same pain. :)

Oh, and HI. Haven't been around for a while. :)

It's the return of DaJoker! Welcome back! Nice purchase for $3000. It looks in way better condition than my Malibu. The northeast is just brutal on cars. I probably should just suck it up and start restoring it. Once I start there won't be any turning back. I guess any original parts that I don't plan on re-using could always go to other Chevelle owners or on ebay. That might help fund my project. I know at my rate the restoration is going to last a couple of years. If I come across a good Mustang project for the right price during the time I'm restoring the Malibu I could pick it up too. I guess there is nothing wrong with having more than one project car at a time. I'm about to get a '78 Impala that's going straight for sale. My mom just picked up a 99' Blazer so she thinks she has too many cars. She was talking about dumping the Impala cheap on one of her friends lots but I told her to give it to me and I'll sell it for her. Given it's age it is a great condition car because it just came up from South Carolina a couple of years ago so it's only seen two northeastern winters.

Welcome back DaJoker! It's nice to see some of the ol members back Now if we can just figure out what happened to Tokyo...BTW, I love Chevelles and wish I had the time and money to own and restore one. It's just not happening any time soon. So I'm envious of your project CH. Don't even think about it, do it!

Another quality post by Ng!

I think both of you can do it. Years ago a friend of mine attended adult night classes at the local trade school. He took autobody I, then II. His project - a 1934 Peter Pirsch fire engine. He did a hell of a job. He has since restored his 1987 Chevy K1500 pick-up, 2 very used Army pick-ups (I think M-37), a mint military jeep from WW II, as well as other stuff. He's done all of the body work and painting himself. He gets better with each project. You guys should see what's out there for training to help you prepare. Me.......there is a rumor that the trade school will be offering pinstriping and lettering in the fall. I'm waiting to see.....

Good luck with your restorations.

Capn,
How's this coming? Any progress? I'm sure there are more folks than just me who are curious.

Nope. It still sits. I was half tempted to fill the tires all the way up and drive it the other night. It was real late at night so nobody would see me and the chances of encountering a cop were pretty much nil. But with my luck I would have got pulled over and got in trouble so logic eventually won over my desire to drive it.

I sold it this morning. It was sad to see it go but the guy gave me decent money for it given the condition. My town forced me to part with it because it was uninsured and unregistered. I'm building a new box with some of the money so expect a thread in the A/V section soon.
