GM killed the Corvette last week

As the article said I am not sure die-hard Corvette fans want a mid-engine car. I wonder what happened to the idea of selling the C7 as the base Corvette and the C8 mid-engine supercar side by side

And IDK that was what was stated to sell the C7 as a base, price at or above @ 60K...

I would be willing to bet they can't build them side-by-side at Bowling Green. Their assembly process always has been a unicorn, and now with 2 variants, it probably won't work. I was involved with the C6 launch, and they re-did all the early 80s conveyors finally at that time. They were salvaging parts from Baltimore, Wilmington, etc., just to maintain them. Parts were no longer available. So, I am sure they optimized on one style, for cost, and now that is a limiting factor.
Too bad, because I think they are going to price themselves into ruin, like the Viper did. Maybe that's their idea of meeting CAFE requirements. Make very few of them, and have customers support the MPG shortcomings...

Maybe it's just the economy ( according to our President, ".....it's Fantastic") but some of the problem is many potential buyers are waiting for the mid-engine. Just read there is something like 6000 2019's sitting on dealer lots. Some dealers here are knocking almost $15K off the MSRP 2019 inventory. I think MAYBE sticker shock could be an issue with the 2020's. I've read and heard prices of $95K to $120K. But who really knows.
