GM Recalls 1.3 million compact cars!!
My HHR had a power steering issue similar described in the article. In my case when I turned right mostly and hit the gas, engine power reduced would come on. It took my Chevy dealer one and half days to fix the issue with help from GM tech line. The solution was to rewire the power steering and left the wires zip tied to the outside of the wire loom
My mileage was right around 25-30k miles if I remember right.

regarding power steering assembly re HHR
Could someone whom has ties with the general please confirm if the HHR is involved with this recall? i am under the opinion that same components are same as whats used in the COBALTS.
any updated info regarding this RECALL would be greatfully appreciated.i am sure there are many other members wanting this clarifed.

I asked on the GM Facebook page (which is run by GM) I haven't got a response yet, but I've been wondering the same thing... I thought the Cobalts and HHRs were the same car, other than the body.
Just got this as a response to my Facebook:
"You're correct, the Cobalt and HHR do have the same steering system. However, every vehicle has unique tuning, tires and chassis, which causes some vehicles to be more susceptible to this condidtion than others. That is proven out by the warranty and customer complaint data."

"At this time...." My guess would be that there are a lot more Cobalts than HHRs on the road and that the absolute number of reported problems hasn't reached the threshold where action is required. But if it is the same part and if it does fail, then it's fair to expect the replacement to be covered.
But just for my own personal satisfaction, I found a stretch of road where I could allow gravity to pull me forward without turning the engine on and I didn't find the unassisted steering any real problem. I think I could even manage to parallel park with it disabled but I wouldn't want to.
