Having fun with a "gotcha"

I'm sure most members have seen the car commericial with the guy and his girl approaching a new car for sale in a showroom. The horn beeps every time they approach the car. And the new owner is pressing the horn button on his key fob, just to play with them.

Well I was exiting the neighborhood Home Depot and I observed a man and a woman leaning against the drivers window peeking inside (I have very dark tinted windows). I quickly shuffled my purchase to one hand and retrieved my key fob and pressed the horn button (a couple of old timers, so it was probably non threatening). It beeps maybe 3-4 times and stops. The pair kind of jump back a little, take a couple steps toward the rear door and I press it again. It beeps 3-4 times and and they moved to the rear of the car walking away. The pair are talking incessantly while walking and looking back at my HHR. The guy turns around and approaches the liftgate window and he bends to look in, I press the horn button again. He just steps back shaking his head.

So, I had enough fun and walk to my car. As I'm loading the stuff in the hatch, the guy comes up from behind and says, "Wanted to look at your car but the alarm scared me". I played dumb (some would say a natural quality) and asked about his experience. After much discussion, I told him the only alarm was if you tried to enter the car.....there is no alarm as you approach. We discussed this at great length until I finally told him I was playing with he an his wife and I was actually activating the alarm from a distance.

He and his wife were good natured about it, and laughed quite hard. They said they even saw the commercial but didn't even think about it when I did it to them. Said they were going to try the same routine on some of his friends.

It really did kind of make my day....especially if they do as they say and take a HHR for a test drive.

Cool story. Thanks for sharing. I warned my wife about people looking and asking questions. Yesterday a guy driving a dump truck in a parking lot gave her a thumbs up!

One day my wife and I were at the local flower garden.

Happened to look up and saw that the parking bloodsucker was about to put a ticket on my car.

I was waiting for him to put the ticket under the wiper blade and I was going to set off the panic button, but I was out of range.
