HDTV: Very cool but miss my SD pic quality...

Hey all, have had a 51" HDTV (Hitachi 51F59) for a year, finally shot lock off my wallet and got HD service. Insight Digital 3.0 w/ DVR, etc. The HD channels are freaking stunning! But... SD channels look looser than they did when piped into the TV's analog CATV coax jack. TV is tuned perfect, its a CRT RP and convergence is spot-on. Its like the Motorola DCT6412 III DVR is borking up the SD channels a little before sending them on to the TV, although I have it (DVR) set to leave the SD alone and not upconvert or anything. DVR-to-TV connection is via YPbPr component cables. Got HDCP error using HDMI cable, plus the HD looks better using the component cables (which makes no sense).

Guess everything in life is a trade off, though.

We have a Samsung 42" RP DLP. HD is stunning, SD is not bad.

Check the settings on the PVR and see if you can upconvert the SD picture a bit.

We have our SD channels upconverted to 480p (Samsung RP DLPs can't get 480i over HDMI) and they are not bad.

In general, SD shows will not look great on a HDTV.

Plan to get a 42-47"LCD sometime in the new yr. Hear about a HTML cable or something like that used more and more, and know what they are talking about but my dvd player I now have, only has RCA jacks and S-video and don't know if there are adapters or how they do that.

I think if maybe you boost the flux capacitor to 1.21 gigawatts that may solve the problem.

Get HDTV cables for way less than at best buy or even wall mart.

Read the review before you buy.

You are lucky.

We currently only have 2 HD OTA channels here (CBC and Radio-Canada).

monoprice.com is a great place to get high quality HDMI cables at a great price.

I bought my HDMI and DVI cables at a computer store. They work great and were nowhere near the price that BB and others want for the overpriced and mediocre Monster products.

Yes, I have two extra sets of YBPBR (Component) cables on order from monoprice. I tried a Belkin HDMI cable but it didn't help.

an08HHR: There is no way to bridge an HDMI connection or adapt it to RCA. Its a digital cable whereas RCA composite (and also component YBPBR) are analog. Can't get there from here. But most HDTV's have RCA composite inputs so you would be able to connect your DVD that way, however picture quality over RCA composite is not optimal.
