HHR Stuck Out In the Cold

So, a cold snap has he rolled through the prairie provinces of Canada and it's cold. I decided to drive to the office because the trains were experience thirty minute delays but there was no parking spot available for me here and I didn't want to pay $30 plus to park in a parkade so I'm out on the street. I went to move my car earlier and it sounded pretty nasty but it started!

This morning the temp on the DIC was -28C (-18F) and the radio folks were saying it was -32C (-25F) and with the windchill it felt like -45C (-45F.) These temperatures haven't warmed up at all today (these are high temperatures pretty much) and it's going to be like this until Thursday.

Tomorrow I think my car is staying in the garage until I have to go out to volleyball tomorrow night. I hope the block stays strong and the oil holds up in these kinds of temperatures. I think I have Mobil1 5W30 in the HHR right now and these temps are really getting close to the limits of the oil (-48C Pour point.) I haven't experienced a cold snap like this before.

Hey Mike.
So what goes around comes around huh? You had shirtsleeve weather last week and it was cold here but now it’s nice on the warm side of the rocks. My block heater worked well (thanks to Yves) last week and I know you can’t plug in at work but it sure helps.

And then there's rain in the forecast here for tonight... Are we next in line for this cold snap? There's no mention of anything like that in the long range forecast either.

I dont miss my old home in Canada one bit when I read your stories. Of course, I was too young to own a car back then...but still....-45 is just crazy-weather.

Hey Ray, it was nice and toasty over the last few days/weeks but not too warm. I heard you guys have gotten a great dump of snow. I read that Fernie has 70 some cm of snow over the last two/three days. I wish I was out there snowboarding instead of freezing over here in my office!

Yves, I'm not sure if this cold snap will make it over to Quebec but it has moved into Sask and Manitoba so you might have a couple days.
