Home computer help
The Dynex is a Best Buy unit. It's a rebranded and after a little looking, that may be a hit or miss one. So I was looking at a Antec unit, but that one at Newegg is about half the cost. Only problem is I'm getting ready to go out of town and need to get this fixed before I leave...
Wifey.....
I think I'll go ahead and order this since this is a problem with emachine PSU's. Since it's will boot up it seems the motherboard is still good. I'll check the wires tonight and see if any or loose. But I think this should be what I need as long as it will drop in with no problem.

Any of these near you. I get all my stuff right in the store by me-they have everything +!

There are 2 stores in the Atlanta area. Don't know how close they are to you though.

I ordered the 400w Antec unit, $40 shipped is not too bad. Should have it here by Friday.
Funny you should say it-you are not the only one with an Emachine issue. I have my mother in laws Emachine ET1161-07 sitting here that I will be looking at soon for the same issue. I have spare PS so it will make it easier to swap it out to check to see if that is the issue without getting out my meters.
Don't forget to ground yourself to the case so there are no static issues to any chips.

Tell me more about this. What overloads a USB port? Granted, of the 4 I use all the time, most is small stuff (printer, mouse, etc), but I do have a USB video card that runs to my TV in the rare case I want to watch something from Netflix online.
Depending on the video card it could overload the usb power output... It also depends what else you are running that draws power from the usb. Is the Video Card powered off the usb or does it have a separate plug in trans former?
Just because there are 8 gujillion usb ports & docks doesn't mean the power supply can handle it. A larger power supply will help-but I tell most "just stick in any available port" people to add a "self powered" usb hub with a separate transformer. This way the transformer is supplying the power, not the computer. Unfortunately these are things they never tell you when you buy the computer.
I'll fill you in about my mother in laws computer issue in a few days when I get to it.
Mike

If memory serves me correct, I'm using this USB card to provide a signal to the TV.

And it is bus powered. Although it's not used often, this may have been the final straw to the weak 300w power supply that came with the computer. Maybe I should unplug it when it's not in use......
I should have the new 400w unit tomorrow accoring to UPS.
