Hurricane update from Firemangeorge

Just a little update. Retrieved one of my deer cams. Found 2 pictures, right before and a couple days after from hurricane Sally.
Going to be a long cleanup. The rest of my 10 acres are just as bad as what's in the after picture. Very minor damage to the house.

Yikes, that’s a lot of tree branches to mulch! Glad you’re ok, and ready to clean up the debris.

That's considerable damage. Good to hear you got through it okay and not much damage to the house.

If there are tangled leaning trees involved, call the pros. Those things get dangerous in a hurry.

Trees mean nothing.
The roof is still on the house.

Hi George, glad you made it through without any damage to the house!
We dodged that bullet too, nothing hit the house but leaves and small branches, but my acreage is really trashed. Worse than Ivan, in fact.
I clocked 118 MPH winds in the back yard for several hours at the height of it. I hear that we in Baldwin County got hit much worse than either Mobile or Escambia, and I believe it.

Somewhere north of 40-50 full-grown trees came down (or mostly down) and of course several of them took down the power poles and lines. One of those piles also landed on my wife's Flex, leaving relatively minor damage.
The SS Panel was in the shed and escaped damage, but was blocked in by a downed 90-foot pine until today. I had pulled my Sorento out into the open and it miraculously didn't get hit by anything so it is unscathed as well.

We just got power back Thursday night after 9 days running on the generator. No A/C or hot water, but we kept the freezer cold and the TV on for my wife, along with a fan and other small things.
Definitely looking at installing a transfer switch for a larger gennie so we don't have to mess with extension cords next time.

Now the cleanup is going to put a big dent in the finances for a while. I can't physically handle what I used to (trashed rotator and Rheumatoid Arthritis) so we are getting a crew to handle it.

Good to hear from you neighbor. Glad the house came out OK. When the storm was peaking for us, I looked at the radar and saw that you were getting the same stuff as us. We were stuck for a couple hours in that strongest outer eyewall band. Sounds like me and you have similar tree damage and clean up ahead .
I went to west Mobile yesterday to pick up another big chainsaw from my nephew. Damage in Mobile ? Honestly I hardly saw any. There were only small piles of debris on the side of the road waiting for pick up. Saw very few trees down.
I'm going to have to handle my cleanup by myself. Can't see paying what they're asking. I'll just do a little every day. I figure it will 6-12 months.
You'll probably see a smoke column for a while if you look over my way. Going to be burning a lot of it.

I tried to do that after Ivan and it took me a couple of years to get it all done.
Screw it, I like my weekends and I will take the hit. Mowing and vehicle maintenance eats up enough of my "free time."

Just pray we don't get another one anytime soon!
