In the area where I live, I consistantly got 13 MPG in my 06 Impala SS, which was rated by Chevy at 18 & 28 MPG. Never came anywhere near 28, consistantly, so I would use similar ratios to other V8 Chevy products.

Lone Ranger, if you can get 18-20 mpg in the city with a vette your doing good, although I doubt you can maintain that over a tank. Ill be right behind you getting 30+. That is a 50% better than 20mpg, running 87 octane. An again, I doubt youll get even 20 in real city driving.

One thing about the SS's is they have full synthetic motor oil. It adds a few mpg over and above what conventional oil yields, as far as fuel economy. The 2.0 liter turbo engine is likely a highly efficient motor, too.

When I changed the oil in mine Saturday the DIC was showing 28.9mpg. I put in full synthetic, but didn't reset the avg mpg or trip odo. With no change in weather conditions and no change in driving habits or the DIC was showing 29.1 avg mpg today. This is on a base of miles built up on the avg mpg section of the DIC of probably the last 1000 miles (I haven't reset the avg mpg readout in about that long, but do reset the trip odo A and B at each fill-up. So the synthetic is doing something.

Right after I changed the oil Saturday, the car felt a little doggy, but that is gone and while it feels no different throttle wise than it did on conventional, the avg MPG indicated by the DIC is increasing slightly in only a few days and about 100 miles of driving since the change, so I take that as a good thing.

I'm on 1/2 tank now and when I fill up next I am going to reset the avg mpg along with both A and B trip odo's and see what kind of avg mpg sets in with the full synthetic that is now in the crankcase.

Although its Q-Horsepower now that is only because it offered $30 in rebates at the time, I am planning on probably going with Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic as my "from now on" motor oil in the HHR after I put about 6000 miles on the Q-Horsepower. Pennzoil Platinum has a lot of good oil analysis's posted over on BITOG.

I just put another couple of tanks into the atmosphere over the holiday weekend. I finally tried 87 on a long trip. I am averaging 31.3 on the first 87 octane tank. 60mph ohio, penn, new york 3 other passengers=240+105+140 and addotional luggage=125 or so. I filled up at 460miles, and fit 14.245 back into the tank. The DIC is off in my favor :), I am 350 miles into the next tank, and my average is up to 32.5. Ditching the weight....I mean friends.... really helped. So as far i i can tell, 94 is no better than 87 in my SS. Power may have suffered, but with the extra quarter tonne in the back, performance was never going to happen anyway.

Wear and tear on the electrical system? Ignition switch? Anyone replace one of these before 150,000miles. I haven't. I doubt there is any validity in increased replacement of "electrical components".

What i do know is that there is a decreased wear and tear on my engine. Since my DIC seems to want me to change my oil after TEN THOUSAND MILES. I'll change it before then though. My brakes will last a lot longer than most because I almost never use them :) Along with my tires etc.etc..

I am winning :)

You might be losing

I'm just laughing at all of this. My pickup sucked up gas like dubya sucks up the whithouse. I'm getting better than double the mileage, and driving like a laser beam.

Yeah, my 4cyl 2000 s-10 gets like 22 at best. Maybe 24 on extended highway.

i know i'm quoting a 3 month old post, but the newer chevy v8s are pretty fuel efficient. I have a 2002 Camaro that uses the same LS1 as I believe 99-00 Vettes and have no problem getting 18 mpg around town, NOT being nice to the car, 27+ on the highway in 6th gear. Even racing it for a full weekend I never got less than 17 mpg on a tank. I can't speak for auto's, but the manual is a godsend.

If you change your oil another 37 times, you'd be getting Prius-class mileage!!! (yes, I actually did the math to support my weak joke).
