I agree that is a right way that should be followed but there is no possible way to stop illegal immigration whether it is from Mexico or elsewhere. My great grandparents followed the legal route when they came to the US from Italy. Pardon me if I'm wrong but don't you already have to be living in the US to become a citizen? 
I don't know if the average immigrant can become a US citizen in their own country. I understand that the person can come into the country through proper legal channels but that's kind of hard to do in third world or war torn nation. Especially if you’re poor, lack resources, and your government is an authoritarian dictatorship. What part made you laugh and I'll break it down less funny for you.

I spent seven years and tens of thousands of dollars becoming a LPR, after arriving to become (I claim) a valuable contributor to the economy. Why are all these illegals here illegally? Because it isn't feasible for them to be here legally under the current system. Why aren't we sending them home? Firstly because the border is so porous that you can't ship them out fast enough to make a dent (over 10 times as many as all the legal immigrants), but mostly because we won't pay $10 a gallon for orange juice.
By comparison I can become a LPR in Canada just by filling in a form and paying the fee.

Don't you guys realize Americans are our own worst enemies. Anything you can find to blame on an illegal citizen or immigrant is being done tenfold by our own people. But its always easier to place blame rather than work at a solution. The Native Americans should have closed their borders and sent all illegal immigrants home a long time ago. 
**** like was posted above sets us back and is totally against what this country stands for.

The interesting thing is that you'd think with NAFTA, enough jobs would have been created in Mexico to support that economy.
I am a great-grandchild and grandchild of immigrants from Canada, Sweden, Ireland, and Germany. My great-grandfather was Cherokee. Yes, they all came here legally, but the way immigrants from Ireland and Germany were treated in the first quarter of the 20th century is very similar to the way we're treating ANY immigrants from Mexico or the Asian continent and islands today.

That article is racist and highly inaccurate. Most of those "100 languages" covered in ESL programs are not Spanish. English is a relatively easy language to learn if you can speak Spanish compared to Hindi and Vietnamese. In addition, the BILLIONS added to the economy from illegals spending money here probably outweighs any money spend on them by the entitlement welfare programs the government sets them up on.
A word about crime. I'm a public defender. Most of my clients are, in fact, poor white trash hillbillyz. I have had two Hispanic clients in the last year, and only one was illegal. That's out of nearly 400 clients. The Hispanic people we have around here are mostly legal and work very hard at jobs that most of my white clients would never consider.

I've just heard the telling of that joke a million times now. What have I posted in the past? I believe we are all equal no matter race, sex, religion, political party, or sexual preference. I may poke fun at white America, Capitalism, Christianity, and the whole Democrat/Republican system but that's just because I'm biased towards Socialism, Atheism, and the destruction of the government being ran by white male Christian heterosexuals. I want to see a Black female Satanic Socialist lesbian in the white house.

Your words. My comments had noting to do with any joke. My comments were about the Illegial Immigration issues that this country has. A problem which hurts millions of Legal citizens in the country. Those two words define themselves. Who was an immigrant in the past is not relavent at all. I was born in this country, my parents were born in this country, their parents were born here. I am not an immigrant. When my ancestors arrived in this country, they became legal citizens. Illegial's but a strain on an already hurting economy. They may spend money, but they (for the most part) don't pay taxes that put money back. They increase the overpoplulation in most areas where they "reside".
Are they hard workers? Hell yea. I see why people and compainies hire them. And those that hire them should be help accountable for that. They are not helping anyone but their own pockets, they are not paying taxes due on those workers, and they workers are getting paid under the table and are not paying taxes and keeping jobs from legal citizens that probably end up on welfare that hurts who? You guessed it, the ones that pay taxes.
