Jiffy Lube - Are you paying for work that wasnt performed?

Here's an investigation performed by a local news in Los Angeles. Pretty interesting info uncovered about Jiffy Lube.

It's really sad that sort of thing happens, but it does alot more than we know. I don't take my car to anyone I don't know personally. When I had my oil changed at @ 1200 miles I took it to the dealer and had it done. When it's time to do it again, I will probably do the same or have my boyfriend do it for me and just save receipts from oil & filter. Is that enough to satisfy the warranty or should I take pictures of him doing the oil change with my digital? This is my first new car in almost 30 years, so I'm out of the loop when it comes to new car warranties.

Thanks PNOY. Could get a little pricey going to the dealer. I supplied my own oil the first time (Mobil 1 Synthetic 5-30), but they did the first one for free. Boyfriend changes oil on all our other cars, so why not have him do this one too?

BTW...I've seen these same undercover operations done here too...and we've got some pretty ruthless people doing them. Nothing like being caught on tape.

That's why I do all I can in my own garage. Oil, transmission, brakes, you name it....after comming back from an Iffy lube to find my previous car a quart low and the oil filter so lose I could take it off by hand I decided it was easier and a better piece of mind to do it myself and know exactly whats done to my car.

I actually worked at a local Jiffy Lube here in Tucson, AZ. They are the most crooked SOB's (pardon the french) I have ever had the displeasure of working with! Just one instance is as follows: On a day I was working sales a gentleman came in with a mid 90's Toyota Tacoma, he said he wanted his fuel filter replaced with his oil change. Typical LOF (lube/Oil/Filter) is 27.99 here. Fuel filter was another 89.99. So I checked our supply, found the fuel filter and told him it would be no prob! My manager at JL took an old one out of the garbage and put it in a new box. Used degreaser and armor all to shine the old one and was getting ready to send the customer on his way. I also should mention I got fired from my job at JL for what happened. I walked in and informed the customer that his filter was not changed and that he should contact local news and a lawyer to pursue JL. Manager did not charge the customer for his filter but INSISTED he changed it and that I was just fired a few moments before and that I was a disgruntled employee! I informed the customer to take his truck to the Toyota dealership and have them do the fuel filter and they would see that it was still the OEM filter with the toyota logo on it. Our filters were silver and his was still black. I told him the manager did not want to do the fuel filter since it was under the intake runners (too much of a hassle said my ex-boss). Customer filed like I told him to and theold boss was fired. I got an apology letter from Jiffy Lube Corporate (big whoop) and was informed that if I wanted my job back I could have it. Wow this is long! Anyway, I don't go to JL anymore because of this! Just my

Stuff like that makes changing your own oil easy no matter how much labor is actually involved. The HHR is a very easy oil change IMO.

an update on this. The insurance company closed the claim because the could not contact us. The contact info they had for me is my company cell phone. i have that on me 24/7 and answer it 24/7. Anyway, I got through to them, they reopened the claim. I had to get 2 estimates. Both found where the tech had leaned on the car when looking at the dent and scracted my back door. the two estimates are $600-$660.

They will be done some time in the next few weeks. Since they are paying, I am making REAL sure that its done right.

While I was watching the guy he said I needed a new air filter. I said if you can hand me the old one I will replace it, He couldn't figure out how to get it off. LOL

BTW This was at walmart. Jiffy lube here is only open from 11am to 5pm I pulled in there at 4:00 and they said they were closed for the day.
