Jim Hall had many great ideas.
He was the first to use a movable rear wing.
It created downforce and used as an air dam when braking.

Shame you don't.
He was a legend. Cars had small block Chevy's and used the 2 speed powerglide trans.
Unheard of when everybody else had manual trans cars.

Just like Carroll Shelby, Smokey Yunick, Don Garletts and Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins.
They all were ahead of their time with ideas. And proved it also.

Those were the golden years of auto racing. You were allowed to "run what you brought" in many series. Today most racing requires megabucks and the cars are so equalized (by the rules) that teams spend millions in wind tunnels and on airflow computer simulations to get a tiny advantage. Racing sometimes turns into a parade where the starting positions determine finishing order. Even Nascar went to a standard car shape that you just put your manufacturer's decals on to "look like" the production car. Remember when Ford came out in the 80s with the aerodynamic Thunderbird and Bill Elliot was winning race after race. Chevy was forced to create the Monte Carlo SS "aerocoupe" to compete. Nowadays innovation just brings you penalties and immediate attempts to handicap you (usually more weight) to bring "equalization".

Jim Hall ran the Chaparalls in the Can Am series, which allowed a lot of innovation. Jim Hall figured out that if you suck the air out from under the car, it will provide a lot of downforce so it can corner better. He did it by putting fans on the back of the car to suck the air out from under the car. Exactly what formula one does today for more downforce, except they do it passively by channeling the air flowing under the car thru tunnels to create the vacuum.
