Ok, another poll,
Lately, municipalities have been having their fireworks displays on the day before the fourth, supposedly so people can enjoy the show, rest the next morning, and go to work on the 5th rested and relaxed.
Legit???
If most people BBQ on the 4th, party and so forth, are you really more rested the day after, or is it just another case of "it doesn`t matter when you celebrate, as long as you do".
With that in mind, lets celebrate X-Mas on a friday every year, so everyone can go after X-Mas shopping on sat.

 

Look at all the holidays already moved for the sake of a 3-day week-end.

 

If fireworks don't go off on the 4th then the 4th has lost it's meaning.

The 4th it's the AMERICAN Way, Fireworks on the 4th it's the only real 4th not the 3rd.

I won't vote since I am not an American. But I will say that a meaningful day like that should be held on the exact date.

In Canada, July 1, Canada Day, is always a holiday on whatever day of the week it falls, just like Christmas day and Boxing day and New Years day. If it is a weekend of course, those who do not work on Saturday or Sunday, the actual holiday, get Monday off.

 

July 4th is INDEPENDENCE DAY.

 

The fireworks should be on the fourth... we do have fireworks on the third as well because of the Park district being a separate enitity from the big city celebration...The military always had the best fireworks displays !!!

 

Doing fireworks on the 3rd, is like celebrating New Years, on Dec. 30.
So why do you suppose it`s done (fireworks) the day before???

 

I understand the idea of having the fireworks on the 3rd. Many places now you are lucky to get the 4th off. Anyone wanting to visit family must take a day or two of vacation off to actually be able to enjoy it. A date to me holds no specific meaning. We should celebrate Independance every day
