Like Your GM Chicklets? GM Doesn't!!!

Seen various threads here from members regarding their GM chicklets. Some like them and some don't. Well starting with the 2010 models you don't have to worry about them anymore. GM has announced they will no longer place their GM Corporate badge on the remaining four brands. Seems they don't want people associating them with their recent bankruptcy: GM Drops its Corporate Badge From All 2010 and Future Models.

i just took mine off. cleans up the body lines

Ratracer 08-26-2009 08:22 AM

I wonder how much $ they would have saved if they had not bothered with it in the first place?

Jeff® 08-26-2009 08:35 AM

I turned mine into refridgerator magnets.

2 cents per emblem and a penny for adhesive. so 5 cents per car

5 cents x how many million cars and trucks?

The real reason they are gone is they are marketing brands now and not so much GM. GM in many public poles has a tarnished rep due to the goverment bail out. GM is trying space between the corperate image and the brand image.

To be honest it was something that just did not click. most people could care less if the car was a GM or not. If anything to the non GM fan it was more a negitive. The GM fan would buy anyway.

Keep the chicklets... some day... in the future, they'll be worth something... at least double in price from what they are now!

solman98 08-26-2009 01:57 PM

Although they can be a pain washing/drying/waxing, I like mine on the car.

JoeR 08-26-2009 03:34 PM

Holy cow!!

Just think... the "new" GM (gummint motors) just might put up the money to put a "Chevrolet" emblem on cars... well like the HHR before its demise!

HHR_SS_QC 08-26-2009 06:08 PM

I've never been ashamed of the GM logo.. so mine are still on the car. :thumb:

I've read the article, and it looks like more GM executives mental masturbation... Will the cars be better without the chicklets???

I like mine but I like the jake chicklets better

lightbg 08-26-2009 06:51 PM

My first new car was a '69 Dodge Dart 340 Swinger.......it had a Chrysler "Pentastar" badge on the dirver's side lower left front fender, similar to the GM chicklet....... it didn't impress me, but I didn't hate it enough to rip it off.......same feeling with this, although it does tend to snag the microfiber more often than not........

I rather like those lil' squares down there. I don't know why...they barely show up visually, and do get in the way in a minor way during waxing, but I'm fond of the little buggers!

timparker1 08-27-2009 02:24 PM

GM tags

I like them OK but removed them since they clashed with the custom paint job flames.

urbexHHR 08-27-2009 02:37 PM

I personally like the Chiclets. I remember when they started putting them on, and my mom's 2006 Impala had them... But then again, they stood out more on a clean black car. Anyways, I like them. GM is still GM even if they had a rough spot in their history. I don't care if they were bailed out or not.... But I know I'm not Joe Public either...

101 Years of Automotive Heritage

Some see it as a symbol of bad times.

I for one (and sure that many here would agree) that it stands for 101 years of automotive heritage.

How many Asian brands can make a claim of longevity such as this?

I agree, 101 yrs is quite an accomplishment.. Many brands didn't last..

Even Harley Davidson hit a bad patch back in the 70's & Pres. Reagan stepped in to help..
Course they not long ago got another hand out as well..

bherrick 08-29-2009 11:05 AM

Long live GM!

Neogenic 09-05-2009 09:23 AM

I think they're lame. I am surprised how much I am in the minority here. I thought they're just tacky, pointless, and get in the way with waxing. I like less badges in general.

ymerej_mortsdnil 09-05-2009 09:28 AM

I like 'em...

I really like mine...

hyperv6 09-06-2009 05:54 AM

I left mine on but if they fell of today I would no miss any sleep.

old tyme hhr 09-06-2009 06:24 AM

GM needed to save that small amount to complete their transfer of operations offshore see attached video to see where they see their future.

No heat required!

Just use dental floss to saw through the tape and then remove the residue with a solvent. I use lighter fluid.

Finish up if desired by waxing.

hyperv6 09-06-2009 04:33 PM

Lighter fluid will loosen it up and it will come off with no problem. Just don't smoke while doing it.

Good advise for most solvents!

Neogenic 09-06-2009 11:03 PM

I was thinking sbout debadging...so you don't need heat...or are you just saying that for the little chicklets? I might remove the HHR badge as well...

3M has a trim adhesive, wax, and mark remover that works quite well. I recommend waxing after using it though.

I've removed, using dental floss and lighter fluid, the GM chicklets and the FlexFuel badge; mine is a 2009. I didn't really mind the chicklets, but got too many questions from people on what this "FlexFuel" thing was. The "HHR" and the "LS" on the rear of the vehicle I expect will stay.

Leave the car outside on the next sunny day. That's heat enough. Then follow the tips of others... dental floss, 3M adhesive remover, etc., and re-wax when done.

sleeper 09-25-2009 06:46 PM

I've removed the 'HHR' letters, & 'Panel' logo off the lift gate, the GM chicklets are next to be removed, but replacing them with tiny Harley Bar & Shield Logos..2 1/4"W x 1 3/4" H

Yea, that's me plan... And I'm sticking to it..

RaineMan 09-26-2009 04:06 PM

Thank god they finally got rid of those stupid things. Everyone and their mother knows that GM = Chevy, GMC, Caddy, etc. I don't need badges to tell me that. Those are the first things I took off, they look horribly tacky.

IgottaWoody 09-26-2009 11:10 PM

it amazes me what people consider important....it doesn't matter what they put on the vehicle, everybody knows what company made it, that can never change, and the corp still runs it... so what change? Why even bother ? And I wonder how many manhours were wasted in meetings to determine this would help..... and how many more manhours wasted deciding if the meetings covered everything and lets not forget the impact analysis studies that were done prior to the meetings that also generated meetings for the project team, scheduling team, research team, cost analysis, manpower requirements, planing and legal....I wonder if they figured how long it will take them for the cost savings to equal out.........guess they better set up a meeting to study that...

Alfred 11-01-2009 02:11 AM

I like that

I like that, that is great to hear.

Sandmanse7en 11-21-2009 09:54 PM

I may be very alone, but I really enjoy the chicklets. I think it helps to bring the entire General Motor family together. Who really doesn't enjoy just a little extra chrome? HUH?:guns:

JazzDad 11-24-2009 02:25 PM

Mmmm, good!

I liked the chicklets. They tasted like pot metal.

My 2009 had plated "plastic" chicklets. You were lucky. How are your teeth?
