List of GM Dealerships Closing (by State)

Found this while "cruising for info". It's a list of THE NUMBER OF GM DEALERSHIPS CLOSING BY STATE. Note that it does not list the names of the individual dealerships....... PA has the highest number of closings.

Also, on the right under Related Articles- More Reports , click on Michigan to lose 58 GM Dealerships. It mentions some decision criteria for the closings.

Hmm 18 in WA closing. Not surprising though, there's so many of them just within 20 minutes of my house. Hell there's two of them less than 5 minutes of my house.

Wonder if the dealer that refused to install a stage 1 kit is still in business. There would be some justice if he was closed down.

More info...SOME dealer names

I borrowed this from another forum which is discussing the same topic. Note (again) the 2 lists do not provide evidence to support each other.....in the number of closings per state.

Only 3 for NV, the one here is advertising that they've signed contracts with the new GM so i guess their ok, even though their service sucks. I've never had a good experience there, heck I even went to ID to buy mine so hope my dealer there makes it ok, I go there for my service even though its 2 hours away compared to 5 minutes.

Why does Co. want to clse where it sells products?

This thought may be my "damaged comprehension.
I can't understand if GM dealers are a franchise, how having less is going to improve selling of product(cars)?

You bet the 2 lists don't match. The one says 24 SC dealers closing and the other lists 4 dealers.

Because GM supports dealers with things like advertising co-op money and if the dealer is a low producer they get less money but they still get money. Bad return on their investment for GM. There are also support costs for GM for things like Area Managers time and travel to go support the dealer. Lots of costs for GM and if the dealer isn't producing reasonable sales it makes the cost/unit extremely high.
