Long night at best buy!

So I just got home from spending the night at best buy from Thursday night at 5p.m. to Friday morning at 6a.m.

Picked up an HP laptop for $400 reg. $800...my other friends got a desktop system for $187.00 and a 19" Flat Screen LCD TV for $130.00.

Was crazy! Never seen anything like that, at 4a.m. they started at the front of the line and asked people which electronic they wanted and then you got a ticket and was guarnteed that product, then at 5 the doors opened and we ran in and got whatever else we wanted...they had 100 DVDR's for $6.00 reg. $60.00...Great buy's if your willing to spend 12 hours outside the store, people started lining up at 3 in the afternoon on Thursday I was about 35th in line and still got what I wanted and I got there at 5...

Wow! I can't imagine it like that. I went to Best Buy at 6 this morning. Not bad at all. It was a last minute, oh why not, type thing. So I wasn't looking for any of the early bird specials. I did get a bluetooth headset for my phone. Last one they had. It was a weekend special. Good thing I went early after all. I went ahead a grabbed to DVDs just cause they were there.

An employee there said that it hasn't been to busy there this year compared to other stores. Probably cause the store just opened about two weeks ago. There was about a fourty minute wait to check out and when I left, the line was a little shorter.

I did the early morning camp outs when Kiddo was younger and living at home and into all the new electronic gadgets. It was worth is then when money was tight. Got what he wanted and saved some money at the sacrifice of waking up early one morning. Now days, if I need something that bad, I'll just pay the extra and not do the ZOO method!

Not being from the US, what is the deal with "Black Friday"?

To me, it sounds like Boxing Day sales on steroids

All year long they say we are in the Red because we arent making sales. So the day after Thanksgvining we expect phenomanal sales so that bring us into the positive which is "in the black" therefore Black Friday. I hope this helps you undestand what Black Friday is.

That makes perfect sense.

The store my wife works at could use several black fridays. YTD sales are down 60% from last year
