Wasn't implying anybody "scam" the buyer, disclose the "bad tranny/will need work" but a car is easier to sell if it can be driven away, even with problems...... basically have to pay someone to take it if it doesn't move....... :skull:

Yeah...
Well at this point I'm still considering all the options. I'd really like to keep the car if I can, it just really depends if changing the transmission is something we could do ourselves or not. If it is, it wouldn't be too bad then. $400-$500 at the most. |

Wouldn't it be better to get rid of it BEFORE the tranny dies?

Kid, I wish you the best of luck. I've pulled FWD transmissions 3 times and it sucks. (Two SHO MTX's and my SC2)Never done it on the lumina, but I can't imagine it would be too fundamentally different. It does save a TON of money doing it yourself, so keep us posted.

I would hope we can do it. I mean, my dad is pretty mechanically inclined. He's rebuilt engines and does most all the work on his vehicles himself. I'm pretty sure he put the transmission back in my truck when he had it rebuilt.... I just hope we can do it ourselves if and when the time comes. |
Ok, well yesterday when I pulled the car out of the garage I noticed some tranny fluid on the floor. Today when I left there were two puddles in the street (not that much, but a lot considering prior to this week it NEVER leaked).
Well anyways we checked, and it was a pint low. We'll have to jack it up and see where it's leaking from. Don't know why it would be leaking all of a sudden. Oh, and to top things off, it looks like coolant may be a hair low as well... |
Lucas* makes a great tranny stop leak in a can..
|
DANGER Will Robinson, DANGER Will Robinson, the Lucas may blow your tranny, the Lucas may blow your tranny! Use caution-I put in my olds and the next morning the tranny went while I was pulling out of the driveway. Coincidence-I think not.

Yeah, I've never been too fond of any type of additives other than gas ones. I don't know. I just don't trust them. Plus, like you said, I've heard horror stories.... Some may be just because it was bad in the first place and coincidence, but there's really no way to tell.
So far, it hasn't done anything again. We jacked it up last night and looked under it, and there wasn't a single drop of tranny fluid on anything, or leaking anywhere. It was hard though to see because I just oiled the doors and fenders, so there's oil all over the place. But no transmission fluid.... Guess I'll have to just keep my eye on it. |
Oiled the fenders??? Please explain...
