It is a guarantee that the time he is in jail, he's not gonna hurt anyone with his driving while intoxicated.

HMM....4 years for 14 convictions......comes out to a little over 4 months per conviction. Doubt that's really long enough to get clean and stay clean.

He will fight it, probably on a technicality, like, the cop didn`t catch him driving, he was in a driveway...
He can't hurt anyone with his car while he's in jail...... unless he's driving around in his jail cell

Getting sober only takes one day...after that it's "one day at a time".It's all up to the person.Unfortunately in this guy's case it really should be forced upon him while he is in jail and he should be dosed with drugs which cause severe discomfort if he takes a drink. It's a fact that anyone can get sober if they really want to. I did.

With Florida laws as they are, our drunk drivers tend to find other modes of transportation. We hear about people killed while riding bicycles at 2am. Please tell me why anyone would be on a bicycle at that time of day? Could it be because they had to find some way to the bar after losing their license? Last week it was a guy in a wheel chair. He had no identification on him. All he carried was a book and a bottle of liquor.

Here in NY in is necessary for all three felony convictions to be for violent crimes in order for them to use the three strike law. I think it's different from state to state and I know it's different in California.

That's the key, having a desire. I'm in recovery also. It doesn't matter what you force on someone, if they don't have an honest desire to stop using, they won't.

I've got over 5 years clean and am very active in a 12-step program and have seen this first hand in my life and in the lives of countless others. I have seen far too many die, who were "forced" to quit, but never had the desire to quit. Wasn't a surprise that they couldn't. They didn't want to. I struggled with this myself for over seven years in the program. Didn't really want to stop, I just wanted all the bad crap to stop happening.

Some one is gathering up bail money as we speak, it`s the American way...

Look in your rear view mirror, that`s him now.

I doubt that this person was continually "allowed" to get back behind the wheel. Just because a license is revoke doesn't keep someone from driving illegally. As this guy was doing once again. Until he wants to quit drinking/using, he will continue to drink and drive every chance he has.

And as has been pointed out, not having a car, does not really keep someone off of the road. I saddly can use my dad asd an example. He was the first person in Overland, MO to get a DUI while riding a bike. This was about 15 years ago. They have had many since, including wheel chairs, riding lawn mowers, scooter, etc....

Only two ways to keep anyone off the road against their will; lock em up for good, or lock em up for good!!
