Microsoft not sending new Virus updates ?

Anyone stop getting virus updates for Windows 10, seems many have stopped getting updates (including me)..

Microsoft says they are working on a fix, mine stopped about 4 days ago. I'm running Win 10 Pro.

Appreciate any input. TIA.

I get annoyed by Defender updates regularly, yesterday and today in fact. They did change the settings so you can download when you want to. I don't want them; I have not had a firewall or security running for the last 10 years. The only virus I've got is from absent minded clicking on things. Most of those can be easily dealt with.

They may have changed the name the notice I have now is for "Security Intelligence Update". I think that means they have moved the definitions to the cloud

Perhaps what I say will not be familiar to the American. But...

I guess I will surprise you. I did not even know that Microsoft has an antivirus and updates it. I asked my brother, he is an IT specialist. The brother said: "Yes, it is, but no one uses it in their right mind." What for? There is a free version of Kaspersky.
Of course, he meant Russian reality.

I use Kaspersky Lab antivirus, everyone I know uses it (paid or free versions), wherever I worked (large corporations and insurance companies) we used only Kaspersky.
This is not an ad, but Kaspersky has never caused trouble or trouble. I heard that he works in the USA or worked before the sanctions. So you can consider this as an alternative.

If you are really interested - it's easy to find on the Internet or I'll give a link ..

Not that many people trust Kaspersky over here. The Microsoft antivirus works just fine for the majority of users.

For a few of my Customers, I've recommended they use AVAST over the Microsoft product due to their kids using their computers, or because of the amount of data (pictures, work files etc.) that they have.

Yes it is.

Different preferences on both sides of the ocean.
In the USA, Google - in Russia Yandex, Microsoft antivirus alternative to Kaspersky, GPS against Glonass, VK against Facebook, etc.
Of course we are different, but the more interesting the communication.

My wife uses Avast and has had a few issues. An IT friend recommended I use ESET NOD 32. I have never had any issues

I don't use any anymore, still no problem. I have a lot of stuff on my computers that M$ and others consider dangerous and deletes. (dangerous to them)

Thanks for all the replies. Windows Defender is much improved on Windows 10 as to prior. In fact it is seamless in the background doing auto updates etc.

I just reset my unit to a day before the updates stopped on 2 / 4 / 20 & all is back going smoothly again. I do also have C-Cleaner & Malwarebytes as well, both FREE versions..

But no Virus issues at all, only the updates stopped. But that is minor compared to old days.

I'm still running Win7... I'm waiting for Microsoft to start writing viruses to shut it down.
