Microsoft Office 2007

Is anyone using this yet? The military has made us install it and so far I'm not a fan. I don't have time in my work day to learn a new version of software I use constantly. I couldn't even find the "save as" function.

Is there any way to install the new version but revert back to the old menus? I guess I could always use the function keys. Any help would be most appreciated.

We recently purchased MicroSoft Office Home and Student 2007 and installed it on both our home computer and laptop. Have yet to really mess around with it.

I have Office 2007 Prof. and I use it daily. I had to get it for the contact manager in it to keep track of my leads and calls. I was not a big fan at first but as I started using it I like it more and more.

Use it in my office and know what you mean.

It's awkward but it does do a lot more than previous versions.

Not sure about being able to revert back to the old look tho.

If you use an older version of Office then you must go to Microsoft and download a patch so the 07 .docx documents will be read as the old .doc documents. The patch works well......

I found when you save a document just click on the down arrow when the save as box comes up and you can save as a 2003 Document it will save it as a doc. file and not a docx. file. Its and added step but then if you save it that way you can send it to someone and anyone can view it even if they don't have 2007.

Thanks for the tips. I had to update a spreadsheet and some PowerPoint slides today. You can chose to keep the slides in the prior version but you have to say no to updating it every time you save it.

My biggest problem today was Word. I have desktop shortcuts to open a few documents and could not get them to open. I had to open the program then the document. I also could not move the cursor with the mouse or select a large amount of text to modify. The only way I could move the cursor was to type letters, use the tab key, or use the directional arrows. That's got to change real fast. I just can't be effective working at such a slow speed.

We're already having computer issues because the LAN administrators are migrating our documents to new servers. You will type a sentence then wait for it to show up on the screen. I swear my Commodore 64 was faster! Adding this new software to the misery has made taking large amounts of vacation time very appealing.

I have been using for the last 6 months or so. I like it, but it took a while to relearn everything. Now I think its a much better program. Kind of Appleized if you will

Here's a link for what Microsoft says you can do to "optimize" Word. I know there is a macro you can run in earlier versions of Word that will allow you to increase the cache size for Word. Had the same problem at our office with files on a server, increasing the cache size fixed the problem.

I'm not familiar with Office 2007 yet, but will mess around with it and see if I can find a way to improve performance over the network. Will let you know as soon as I can.
