I love all kinds of music, but like songman, I'm country first. My favorites include

Merle Haggard
Johnny Cash
Waylon Jennings
Hank Williams Sr
Don Williams

I also like 80's music since that is what I grew up on. Songman, you are correct that 70s and 80s pop is what country is now. I like SOME of it, like Dierks Bentley and Josh Turner. The new song by Brad Paisley, Waiting on a woman is very good. I especially like the video featuring Andy Griffith, who I'm a huge fan of.

Mixman, if you call CW McCall a rapper, then you must call William Shatner a rapper also

So you see the sarcasm.

BTW: Shatner is more mc than rapper.

Glad to see that you also put Merle at the top of the list. Any list of real country music has to have Merle at the top. But I guess I am a little biased since I grew up with him and he is the reason I got into the music business. I like some of the new stuff too. And then there is that other new stuff that is not necessarilly bad - it just isn't country and should be labeled as what it is.
