Very nice car...my 1969 Chevelle SS396 was green / white stripes...

Mine is a true SS.....I did much of the restore, (Still am...never really done)although I did have an associate build the engine. I don't have a place to do that kind of work. This guy rebuilds engines for some of the Predator UAV's, and does off-shore and auto engines in the slow times. Cool job, but VERY exacting. He cannot talk alot about the proceedures, but EVERYTHING he does for Uncle Sam is carefully checked before acceptance.

Anyone want to donate a 700r tranny......full carpet kit, etc....LOL

MY first car was an Opal Stationwagon....I am jealous....

i'm on 15x8" rims and 235/60/15 up front and 275/60/15 in back. i forget the back spaceing on them but they're pretty deep(as most crager wheels are) and i have to watch out when i get the rear flexin. I wanna go with a two or three inch hotchkis lowering springs and 18ft/20rear.

Yeah there is always something else that you look to doing on them. lol
Did they make SS with 350 blocks in '72? thought they were a low hp454 due to emmissions.
Just get a 4speed tranny!
and i got a steal on the car 650 for the car cuz they thought the motor was bad. they just had bad plugs, crappy time, one side of the carb was set for almost no fuel, and non-foulers on the leftside of the block.

Ok gang, from the site rules:

Picture Size in Posts - If you are using the [img] tags, please make sure your pictures are not bigger then 640x480. If your pictures are larger then that, please resize them or if you can’t, just post a link. Many people are using dialup. Be respectful.

If you are going to play, then play by the rules.

Thanks.

My pics check out okay for size.....either I am lucky, or someone did it for me.

I fixed the tire clearence problem by shaving the inside lip of the fender, behind the chrome trim, and installing rear airshocks.

The low HP engines started in 1973...my SS was built with the small block.
The rebuild kicked up the HP a bit....

SS clone.....isn't the difference just the round instuments and the decals....?

SS was just another options package pretty much(the top), as was the malibu package(like a base). If check the vin, it wouldn't show as an SS, but its badged and looks so hence the "clone" title since it didn't roll out the factory that way.

Wow, those are some sweet cars guys! Love those Chevelle SS's and their dual stripe paint scheme. I have thought about doing something like that on my Formula when i get to the paint booth!

I miss my Firebird too! I still have it, but it has kind of been put on the back burner with two kids in college, etc... Oh well, cars like my HHR SS, Riviera, and my Eldorado help me get by while I wait to get back to getting the Bird back on the road!

Here is one of the more current pictures of it after I pulled the tired old motor for the refresh...
