Need help from the HHR community ...

Okay, here's the deal. I'm attempting to start my career as a novelist, and found a site for writers run by Harper Collins called "Authonomy," which has a huge community of prospective writers online, kind of like a big writer's workshop based out of the UK.

Every month, the leading vote-getter among all the books on the site is considered to be at the head of the "Editor's Desk" ranking, and that manuscript gets a reading from the Harper Collins editorial staff (to my knowledge it's the first 10,000 words). While everyone on that site has been a great help thus far to me, they also have had about a nine to ten month head start on me.

I'd love to get the opportunity the top of the Editor's Desk list gets. And since the FAQ for the site says this is perfectly legal ...

Anyone who wants to help me, sign up for an account on the site (it's free), then search for me and put my books on your "Bookshelf," which gives them an Editor's Desk vote that stands for all time.

If I can get a bunch of the HHR folks to back my stuff, I hope it'll be a start to my career as a professional writer! Thanks in advance.

wouldn't you want all the people voting for yours to actually read it and vote for it if they think it should get picked, instead of just asking for votes? That way when you get picked and the editorial staff reads it, it's up to the standards that it should be and not just there because you asked a lot of people to vote.

i'm not trying to sound mean with what i said, but i'm a graphic designer and i have entered a lot of different things online and I know i really want it to win, but i also want it to deserve to win. In certain things like this you can see when people are just spamming votes off of people that they know. It's how contests of skills turn into popularity contests.

Right now, my main problem is getting people on the site to even *read* the book. It seems like it's drowning in what's offered right now, and what I'm mainly looking for is feedback on it. That being said, I've only received one bit of feedback on it thus far, while other books that have been on for less time are inundated in commentary.

To be sure, I don't want folks coming and voting for the book if they don't like it, or wouldn't buy it in a bookstore, I just want to get read.

OK, proving myself to be half the wit some folks around here think I am, I searched for "desert coyote" and came up with a bunch of random board posts. Make it easy for us dim-wits and link to the search.

I'll help out a fellow Lake Erie area dweller,

Easy way:

http://www.authonomy.com/

Go to "Forums."

Go to "Shameless Plugs."

Look for a post called "Even the chickens agree with this one!" (May take a couple of pages to find). Follow that post.

Click on the cacoyote head (you'll figure out why it's called that) and that'll go to my profile

OR

Click on the link within the post, which is the book's title ("The Advance Guard").
