Not an HHR but a race worth repeating...
So to save some miles on the HHR I have inherited my brother's 98 Geo Metro. This is a 4 banging monster I tell you. I think the displacement for this thing is around 1.3L. So, to make it my own I put the wheels from my focus on it, lower it, put a warm air intake on it and redo the whole exhaust system. Now its as rice as I wanna be. Tinted windows, cd player and AC. Nothing special. So I am on my way to work this morning and some kid in a yellow Ford Festiva revs at me. He's got one of those little aluminum wings above his hatch that sits about a foot above the roof of his car. Krylon yellow paint. Spinner hubcaps and a HUGE exhaust tip. No mufflers just a pipe and a tip. I couldn't help myself. When the light went green both cars hit it. Exhaust screaming letting everyone within earshot hear the power we were bringing. 8 combined cylinders of fuel efficient fury filling ever ounce of displacement... (right about 3L for BOTH engines combined) And hearing our gears rev out as we take off redlineing every gear. My palms started to get sweaty as the car reached 35mph. And then I saw it. The finish line. 2.5 gears and several seconds later we actually made it to the other side of the intersection. Only to be passed by some little old lady in a buick. This stupid Geo won't hit 65 unless I am going DOWNHILL with a TAILWIND. But it gets close to 40mpg on a 25 mile one way commute. Can't complain that much. Just can't wait to hit the streets and race some more fast cars. Never found anyone as quick as this Metro and the Festiva. We were even more than fast and certainly somewhat irritated but definately not furious!
