I lost my 11 year job last March 31, only to see them hire a degreed person to fill a new position there. I was a trainer of hydraulic and control systems and had earned respect from power companies across the states and Canada also Saudi Electric.
I am on the realistic side because of a work disability and age that it will be very tough to find a new position somewhere.

I know that it is risky to take a local situation and extrapolate it, but we have a regional shortage of folks that can install, program and maintain SCADA systems for water and waste water systems. The guy that used to work on the system for our local water companies finally retired, but was making a lot of money at it. One of many areas that might be worth investigating. This is an example of a technical job that does not require a degree but pays very well.

To the OP.......
Don't let the lack of knowledge, regarding forklifts, threaten you. They operate much like a car but are back end heavy (know many people like that
), until they are loaded (again like alot of people). Besides, to accommodate OHSA requirements, you will get training and awarded a "operator permit" upon completion.
I operated a forklift as part of my job requirements many, many years ago. OHSA requirements were non existent, then. But the business owner was thinking of safety, and to some extent, durability of equipment and provided some training.
It's easy.....don't worry about it AND GOOD LUCK in the new position.

Well good luck with your new job Tony!! Hope you enjoyed your first day today. I am off of work again, for the 3rd time in the past year. Finally got my unemployment straightened out, after going two weeks without and then finding out that I took a pay cut on my unemployment, all is ok for now. Stopped out at my work last week to see how things were looking, and from what the boss lady said, not too much going on and no upcoming jobs where they will need to call anyone back, so for now, i will just concentrate on my schooling.
