It appears to be fake, not saying isolated incidents couldn't happen because the story gives people ideas...

 

This is one time I am going to disagree with Snopes (although it is usually the first place I go to verify internet stories) who cares if they don't have "documented cases" where this has happened. It is a good warning simply because from a practical standpoint it would likely work. Don't get out of your car for any reason with the keys in it (obviously you would think, but people do it).

 

Yeah, watch out for vehicles with headlights out also !!!!
