Yeah I'm not looking to drop loads of cash on a detector because generally I drive pretty cautiously since my 5 year old is usually in the car with me. My last speeding ticket was back in 2007 in my lifted ford explorer. I got that ticket because I didn't have my speedo calibrated for my 33's.

Yeah, I like having a radar detector because it gives me comfort to know if I'm being radared. I've never been one to intentionally flaunt speed limits. I can't remember the last time I had a speeding ticket -- it's been decades at least. But where I live, in commuting traffic, you have to speed just to go with the flow of the traffic. If you try to go the speed limit, you create a traffic hazard. On some rural highways, small town police officers set up radar traps where the speed reduces very quickly from 65 to 35. It's a revenue producer. Across the border in Oregon, Big Brother thrives and they have 65 mph speed limits on the interstate and hefty fines. I just find it more comfortable to have a warning when I'm being monitored.

(Just as an aside, the fastest freeway speeds I've experienced in Oregon are in and around Portland where the Priuses drive 80 in the 65 zones during rush hour.)

I just keep to the speed limit and don't have a need for a radar detector. Cruise control is quite helpful to maintain the speed limit.

yea, i got the redline, and love it. I mean, i dont speed often, and around where i am, they shoot more radar than laser, so its worth it. But overall, nothing helps, like not speeding. lol

I ended up ordering me a Whistler unit from Amazon that was cordless. They had some with the cool blue screen, but everyone said that it was impossible to see during the day so it renders it pretty much useless. I got one that lights up in bright red so hopefully it'll be a little easier to see. Thanks for all the help...we'll see how this one does. For under $100 I'll take my chances. Amazon has a great return policy so if I don't like it, I'll just return it.

I've also heard that the folks with the fancy blue lights can see the blue displays easier than the red ones.... Much brighter at night.

The Whistler XTR-330 has a "dark" mode where it would just show a little dim letter C or H and when it got an alert would go completely dark and just use an audible alert. I liked that. No lighting up at night with an alert that could be seen by the radar operator.

My Passport is hard wired in and has a seperate remote head I mounted in the dash waterfall. Makes for a easy push of a button to silence everything without raising a hand to the dectector itself. The red lettering on the display doesn't travel very far and I can't even tell it on outside of the car.
