i believe most of the east coast calls it pop, I had family over there and when they'd visit we'd make fun of them for calling it pop. As a kid we always called all sodas "coke" then youd get asked what kind Pepsi, coca cola, etc. Now i call it soda, or just use the brand name.

May have changed since I was a kid...(it was a long time ago)

But, I called it "pop" being from Michigan. When visiting relatives on the East Coast...New Jersery, Penn., Maryland, Delaware, DC.....people didn't know what I was asking for when saying "large pop"....they laughed and said "oh, soda".

EDIT...since it wwas asked, this may be interesting...

also just notice...if you click on the link to the right, once you load the above link, it is much more detailed.

Fizzy! Actually I heard that in England and was extremely confused with respect to what the girl at the counter was asking me.

She kept asking, "What kind of fizzy would you like?"

I kept asking her what a fizzy was and I finally realized she was referring to pop.

Always called it pop since I can remember. I do recollect my mom telling me a story about going back to Baltimore to visit relatives where she grew up. She asked the kids if they wanted a pop...and they backed off. Thought she was gonna pop them one.
