288

48/2=24
9+3=12
24*12=288

Damn, now you have me going back to my math on what gets done first.

2
2(9+3)=24
48/2=2

My first thought was 2.

9+3 = 12 x 2 = 24 , 48/24 = 2

But google math does it as / not ÷ which then breaks the equasion to 48 2 = 12 outside of the (9+3) and then is 288.

A algerba site from college comes up as 2, excel says 288. Gotta hate math..

288

48 / 2(9+3)
48 / 2(12) -- (alternatively 48 / 2 * 12)
24(12) -- (alternatively 24 * 12 )

So the way it is shown I would go with the first answer of 288 because in order of operation it basically reads 48/2 multiplied by (9+3). If it were worded 48 divided by 2(9+3) then my answer would be 2.

Well you always do what is IN the brackets first, then what's outside. So 9+3=12 48/2=24 and since there is no sign before the brackets its implied to MULTIPLY 24x12=288

The good Officer is right. Now, what other piece of your homework do you want this board to do for you? Can I post my homework for the board to solve? I am a Management Scientist with a Bachelor Science in Business Management, a Masters in Management and am in the second year of my PhD in Leadership and Management. The current question on the table is "Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of sampling. What are the inherent problems of sampling?" The response must be at least 300 words, and contain at least two peer-reviewed references. Be sure to cite your references in APA format. When you have finished that, I have a 1,400 word paper due next Tuesday analyzing the difference between Quantitative and Qualitative research (with at least 10 peer-reviewed references - the entire paper to be APA format) that you can whip out for me

I'm not in school I'm 25. I was an elementary/early childhood ed major, I work with toddlers.

Ok, forget order of operations. Do you guys remember the distributive property? 2(x+y) = (2x+2y). This also led to FOIL. X and Y simply represent a number. So if we use this rule in the equation, 48÷2(9+3) now becomes 48÷(2*9 + 2*3). 48÷(18+6). 48÷24. 2.

I'm a Management Scientist, not a mathmatician!

Forgot to mention: I am in school, and I'll be 60 next month. Plus working full time. In my spare time I work on the HHR, hang out on this BBS and others, and have a couple other hobbies. I hate being bored!
