What would you think of a brand-new '50s-styled pickup truck, built on a modern frame and suspension, with a new, emissions-legal 385-horsepower V8 engine and full compliance with federal safety requirements, all covered by a three-year/36,000-mile warranty?
That's the pitch from Southern Motor Co., a Liberty, South Carolina, startup. The company plans to commence construction of Southern Motor 358, a vintage-styled pickup truck planned for 2008 for a surprisingly reasonable $55,000.

That company is northwest of me. My FIL works near the plant/factory. Hard to say how it will work out. They look nice and the number are pretty fair. But it's going to be hard to swallow the $$$ for a truck like that. Talk is that they have a few already reserved for folks. I'm sure that they will be on the news soon locally. If it actually goes into play.
"Build it and they will come". I don't know about you, but I certainly don't have that kind of cash lying around. It's a nice idea, but I have a feeling it may take off about as fast as the resurgance of Indian Motorcycles did sevearl years ago.
Best bet would be to find an original and do it yourself.

MMMM, not really liking the Ford powerplant in a Chevy looking vehicle... Not really for me, wish them luck, hopefully more companies will spring up, or a wider selection of these vehicles coming to the fore front. Here is their website if you want to see the specs though.
