What if you file jointly and have SSN's in two different ranges? Which one do they go by?

I think it was on "Countdown" on MSNBC yesterday that I heard something about the Govt. sending out letters to everyone telling them how much their rebate would be. Can this be true, and what's the point, since the rebates will begin arriving in less than a Month? Maybe to keep some folks from spending money ahead of time, then finding out they're not getting as much as they thought!

Did we ever get a final number on what the minimum rebates are? I heard it was a minimum of $300 for singles and $600 for couples.

That's what I've heard too. But since I'm retired, and my wife still works, I don't know that I could be considered a "wage earner" even if we file a joint return. So I'm not sure if I would get $600.00, or $300.00 Doesn't make much difference either way since ours has already been spent for hospital bills we owe on!

technically, it's deferring the payment until future tax periods. and we'll have to make up the interest of deferring with more future taxes. so really, it's not a tax cut at all. and the effects of stimulating the economy now will probably not be significantly different than zero. good job government

Go to www.irs.gov There is a calculator there that will help you determine what you should get
