Tech Support fables...

I just had the joy of speaking to a client who was certain their internet was down. Absolutely certain. I, however, was sure that their service was working, and working well.

How was I sure?

The client called be using Vonage.

It took me about 10 minutes to explain that if their internet phone was working, then by simple deduction they could assume that their internet was up and running.

Cool internet down, tv working...

This may be true, but I have Comcast broadband internet & Digital Cable. They both run on the same cable coming into my apartment, but I have had cases where the TV works and the internet does not. I have called regarding these problems, and they say that the internet requires a stronger signal from the main hub and sometimes you may have Television service but no internet. Maybe the situation is similar with the internet phone vs. web browsing.

I`ve been told by CS reps that when I was having trouble with my computer I could e-mail in for faster service. I said if computer could e-mail why would I be on phone with you?

You DEFINITELY need a stronger and more consistent signal to use any VoIP service than you do to surf. Were that not the case, you could VoIP on a dial-up connection

Same here. Cable TV was fine yesterday but no internet at all. They said that the internet uses a different type of router system at the trunk.
