Tell Us About Your Very First Rock Concert
Mine was back in the stone age back in 1974 when I was 16.
My brothers and their friends pulled some strings (they were in the theater business) and got us front row tickets for Bob Dylan and The Band at a concert in NYC. They busted my chops about some Patchouli scented HS chick that I "had to take" to the concert. Didn't work out in the long run, but it was still an unforgettable experience for both her and I.
As I remember it, Rick Danko was on bass, Levon Helm on drums/mandolin, Garth Hudson on organ/sax, Richard Manuel on piano, Robbie Robertson on guitar & vocals as well as Bob D on vocals and acoustic.
I had some pretty good pics from my Kodak Instamatic 126 with Magicube flash bulbs (birthday present from my folks), but they are long gone.

I don't know how you folks can remember which was the first one.
My memory from back then is kind of hazy(smoke haze for sure
)

The Beach Boys with Jan & Dean, you lucky son of a gun George.
It's easy for me to remember that first concert, because half the time I was scared witless. It was called the August Jam, and there were an estimated 250,000 people stuffed into the speedway, back in the days when it seated 90,000 max.
I think it was the band Foghat who hired helicopters to buzz the crowd dropping hats, sunvisors, and T-Shirts. Quite a few people "freaked" and got hurt, the hospitals in Concord and Charlotte treated something like 14,000 people for heat stroke, overdoses, and broken bones etc.
Everything was cool when the bands were playing, but between sets, yikes!

Police would check for booze and take it but didn't search anyone for anything else. What times those were?
My grandaughter says the place is still there but under a different name.

1956, Elvis in San Diego, Ca. My mother know someone, who got is in the side door and we sat in the front row on left side. What a show for a 12 year old Went to school the next day and told the kids I saw Elvis last night and some said, WHO?
