I think the movie 2001 A Space Odyessy messed us up on how to state a particular year. It should have been Twenty O One A Space Odyessy.
Not enough to do around that dealership today?

It's a set of circumstances that still bewilders me.

June 2009 - My mother-in-law moves in with us.

June 2009 - She decides she is no longer able to drive her 2005 Impala with 3000 miles on it. I park it on my side driveway.

July 2009 - Cretants break out my liftgate window on my 2009 Tahoe demo and steal my third row seats only.

July 2009 - My company decides that due to the number of demos wrecked/vandalized that were assigned to sales managers, they will now be charging the full amount of any repairs of demos to the employee driving them.

July 2009 - The estimate on my demo is $3800. I opt out of having a demo and take the offered car allowance increase in pay. I use the 2005 Impala as my daily driver.

9/11/09 - My son is coming home from taking his girlfriend out and decides that the flashing 25 MPH sign on a sharp curve does not pertain to 18 year olds driving in a rain storm. He spins out and blows over a curb and 2 parking blocks, blowing out all four wheels, all four hub bearings, aframes, the engine cradle, rear axle bent, bumper tore up and left running board push through the body pan. Estimate to fix $9300.

9/18/09 - Insurance totals the vehicle.

9/24/09 - My mother-in-law gives my son her Impala and I buy the Malibu.

And that's how I became an ex-HHR owner.
Thanks for the details for us non-premium members (for now anyway)..

Yeoww!!!! That's certainly a lot in a row

Hope your son was ok....

& Very Sharp looking Malibu (I must say).. Best wishes for the new ride..

Were you included on the decision to give the 2005 Malibu to your son?

My point being that it sounds like he's being rewarded for his poor judgment...

When my Dad passed away he had a Chevy Blazer close to 10 years old with about 7k in mileage. Me and my brother did not want it (would have had to ship it cross country if we did) so my sister got it and gave it to her son. Within six months the car was dead, all banged up and tranny blown....

When I was 20 I did not learn my lesson when I wrecked my 66 Caddy speeding around a corner, it took me losing my license for 2 months after crashing my 71 Firebird while drag racing and almost getting killed for it to sink in.

If you were against him getting the car and the MIL decided to give it to him anyway you could have used the "not while you live under my roof" clause..

I now get ill if I am driving with somebody that is speeding and I can't drive fast at all without panicing....

I was lucky, I walked out of the second crash with only my confidence damaged. I've had a few friends that weren't so lucky...

Actually I had him walking. I never had a new car until I was in my late 20's and my dad didn't buy it for me.

Yeah I know the spoiling the kid with a new car story, but if I worked in a music shop he would have gotten a new guitar. He makes straight A's, doesn't drink and is usually a good kid.

It was her decision not mine and I gave no input. But he is driving grammies base model car with the crappy radio and no frills.

Sounds like he's a good kid and the accident may just be a one time error then.

I would have given him a second chance too......

I wish. He had already taken out both front wheels before by simply hitting the old style lane dividers that still exist in Dallas. He's a good kid, but that doesn't mean he has good common sense.

Here's the first one:

He sounds like a good kid, just still growing up..
