Nice post Airborne_Beachbum. Even though I disagree with us being there you gave me some perspective into why you feel we should finish the job. I agree we should have taken Saddam out the first time we were there but how long would it have been until another took his place. Same with this war. After we pull out how long do you think it will take for things to revert to as they were before the war but with a new leader at the helm. Are our actions really going to make a difference in the long run?

HonestBlues don't let BB get to you. I enjoy your presence in this thread. You are willing to talk openly without attacking a non-war supporter like myself, which is very cool IMO. BB please stop trying to start fights. Give your opinion in a respectful manner not in a manner that will piss people off. I definitely want to keep this thread open as it has been interesting to me so far. Just because someone doesn't support the was doesn't mean their opinion is wrong, it's just different than yours. I am trying my hardest to be respectful of war supporters opinions because it gives me insight into thoughts and feelings that I don't share. It's not that I'm going to change anyones mind and likewise nobody is going to change my mind but at least maybe we'll understand each others view points a little better.

That's the main reason why I think our war on terror is futile. If the US is so afraid of Middle Eastern terrorist I guess we should stop funding, supplying, training, and backing them huh?

I voted yes. I don't know that I agree with the decision, but once our elected leaders made a decision, I feel we need to stand behind our president and our troops.

I agree with the statements of Honestblues. I would add, War is not popular, it is never meant to be...World War II, a great victory by the United States and it's allies, was not popular, and there were calls for an early pullout...by the grace of God and the strength of the leaders the War was taken to it's end...If war were popular we not by the moral people that we are...
The United States finds itself on the reverse of many issues in the Middle East, because like the sands, alliances constantly shift. In this case there have been gains, we now have the facilities to provide better intelligence and with the resources of the terrorists involved in the middle east and that afore mentioned better intelligence the terrorist attacks are not here...
Ultimately I do believe that the United States needs to realize that "giving" freedom to the oppressed who have never enjoyed freedom, does not necessarily work...Freedom is hard and costly and if the people have never fought for freedom, they might not have the fortitude to establish or sustain the structure to support freedom...The war was just and has paid dividends, are those dividends worth the cost of the American military who have paid the ultimate price, I doubt that any dividend would be considered worth the lives of our troops, but history and time are the only true determining factor...

I honestly feel that is why a lot of people that support the war do so. Which IMO is the most commendable reason to support the war. I just can't put that much faith and backing in our modern government personally.

Behind our troops, yes because they are at the mercy of what our government tells them to do. Behind our President, no because not all decisions made by a President are correct.

I mostly agree with that other than the war being just part. But I'm not here to argue that point just learn from others. Good post.

I have a hard time putting faith in them a lot of times, too. There's a lot that our current government does that I disagree with, and I'll leave that statement there. Our country ain't perfect, but it's a whole lot better than some of the alternatives.

True. For as much discontent I have with our modern system I wouldn't want to live anywhere but America. I think that modern politicians take a lot for granted and have long since forgot the America our forefathers fought to create. Now it's about the greater good of the politicians rather than greater good of the people.
