You guys must live near each other in the big state, eh?
You are giving and getting great advice. so many DSLRs out there and all will deliver pics much better than most consumer digicams. You really can't go wrong with any DSLR if you want great quality pics.
The infared pics I do are from a low end Canon DSLR the 350 D. Granted I spent another $300.00 getting it modded for IR, but it took great pics before as well.
Good luck and have fun guys. Don't forget to take plenty of our favorite car!

Here's a couple of Iron Man:

Great infrared pics. I probably going to get some infrared film for my holga and shoot it a bit (yeah i still use film for playing around)

the camera i'd like to pick up is the Canon XSI. I use and XT at work, and it although it's not the best, i have a nice lens for it. Would love to upgrade myself to the XSI though (and I don't need a big daddy for myself). Not too pricey and i prefer it to the other SLRS in that level. Halfpanel, you can get an XSI with the standard kit lens and w 75-300mm zoom for around $800. Not too big of an investment. You then just gotta invest all the time on how to use it and photography in general.

Iron Man ,
Nice picts
Paul-
The price of entry level DSLRs has come down so much in the last 2 yrs that you can pick them up for a song. I picked up my Oly E-510 w/2 kit lenses for $600 from BB a year ago, 12mos same as cash. And the used sites like KEH have good deals for upgrading equipment junkies that just gotta have the latest and greatest. The current retail crop of package deals for Canon/Nikon are nice with the VR/IS lenses. I'd expect all the retailers to get really down and dirty this holiday season given the economy.
