sleeper - this is one of my fav local cars. An Essex rat rod. Last spring thru fall he used this as his daily driver. The round thing around the speedo is a bunt pan.

Whopper- Now I like that. Haven't seen an Essex in a long time. 2-4bbls on the tunnel ram & a bundt pan. What's not to like.

That shifter reminds me of the dashboard shifter in (69 ?) International Scout mail delivery trucks I use to work on, when first starting out in car repair.

There are a few vehicles with a shifter in that area.

Corvair auto was a bit higher. A Rental Van we had at one point had about the same.

Had one of those. Corvair 500, 95 hp I think. Winter beater. Awesome in not-too-deep snow. The tiny lever was on the dash just to the right of the instrument panel. Low risk of theft b/c they couldn’t figure out how to make it go. Not that anyone wanted it.

No ”park” so it was truly a parking brake, not just an emergency brake you could neglect.

Drove 3 second-gen Corvairs. Learned to drive in Mom’s ‘65 Corvair Monza. 4-on-the-floor. Way better. 110hp. Red w/ white vinyl buckets. My 1st love.

My uncle had a 62 Corvair. He would let me drive it in empty parking lots. I was about 13 & it was more fun than my Go-Kart
