Felt I couldn't do much better than Geico for the cars. Someone suggested I try Hartford thru AARP (my past experience was AARP's supposed discounts on services was a fantasy) but lo and behold I did save the infamous 1/3 - Geico would have been almost $1500 and Hartford was $950 -full coverage for 3 vehicles for a year.

Motorcycle is with Progressive.

I'm looking to switch....

When I bought the HHR they quoted me at $500 for 6 months, which included storage on my Lumina. Now they found an "error" on their part, and my premium was raised $300! To me, it seems like a scam. I called last night, and the guy kept telling me that I needed to prove my residence since I moved, and that the rates were going to be high since I was moving to Michigan! I kept trying to tell him I wasn't moving but he didn't care. He kept telling me since I was moving I needed to prove the address. Then at the end of the call he asked if he did everything he could for me...HA!!

yeah 800 seems more like a Michigan price. I think it is somewhere around 415 for me for full coverage.

Mercury Insurance. Used to have State Farm when I was 16 until they dropped me after 3 accidents in 2 years. Funny after 32 years of driving w/o a moving violation or accident State Farm still refuses to insure me.

Well I'm switching today to AAA. Called my former insurance agent, and they can get more coverage for $500, with lower deductibles!

Don't know why they didn't find that one when I first called them about the HHR...but who cares.

do you have to be a certain age to get aarp??? i thought that it was only for retired , or over 65 or something. can anyone get aarp??? i also thought that aarp offered auto , but only if you had other ins with them. either way i may be interested. my dad was freaking out and very unhappy when his company gave him an increase. my broker told me that all had went up and that there was nothing that anyone could do. so , would he have to have some ins with aarp to get this deal with hartford??? and this means that aarp does not have auto ins??? i am confused.

AARP is for 50 and above. No you need not do all your insurance with them, but it does get much cheaper because of combined casuality.....house, cars, etc.

I changed FROM AARP back to State Farm. Just was not comfortable with AARP claims people (windshield on a van)......they were very evasive, himming and hawing. I finaly paid it myself. Was going to go to them for house coverage and they would/could not match the COVERAGE I presently had. I flipped when they told me the used a rebuild rate of $72/sq. ft. (which would hardly be possible, under complete clean-up and rebuild circumstances).

They then raised the renewal coverage on the HHR by 80%. I questioned this as not possible.......no claims, no tickets, etc.....bib, big arguement. They stuck to their price and I went back to State Farm. Shortly thereafter, I was contacted by them. Hartford/AARP admitted they had programmed the coverages incorrectly.....had my vehicle listed as a V-8 (yeah right), etc. etc.. When I expressed concern about the knowledge of their claims people, I was told they have a very large turnover and give no decision making power to the people (kind of sounds like Chevrolet Customer Service).

Anyway, there is an older thread, regarding this, about 1-2 years ago. It lists many respondants and the name of their insurance company, with rates, coverages, etc. You might want to do a search for more info.

Call AAA direct for a quote. Sometimes your rate includes a % for the agent.

Been with them for 40 years.
