What A View!
What A View!
I'm in Colorado Springs visiting my son this weekend. Today was a beautiful, warm day so we decided to drive up to Pike's Peak. We only made it to 13,000 feet before they closed the road. They had 4 inches of snow last week so I'm sure there was much more on the mountain. The temp was 26 degrees and the wind was howling at up to 20 mph up there. But, it was all worth it to see this view. You've got to do this once in your lifetime. Even the drive wasn't so bad in my Chevy Cobalt rental.
Beautiful country isn't it? We are kinda spoiled here. Gonna have to take the HHR down there this summer and get some nice pics. Too bad you weren't gonna be here longer...would love to have met up with you.
I was up to the top of Pike's Peak with family when I was younger. Think I got a tinge of altitude poisoning or something because I spent most of the time with my head in a bag.
I can't believe people really RACE on that road to the top... some really sharp turns and some really steep cliffs!

Last year we made the trip to Denver and drove to Mt Evans. Like you we only got to just over 13,000 feet before the road closed, but man what a view! I agree everyone has to experience that at least once in their life. You truly feel like you are on top of the world. Here is a pic from our trip.
I didn't have any ill effects which was very surprising. My first trip to Colorado Springs I could hardly breathe. Living at sea level will do that to you. I got winded while walking around at the top but fighting the strong winds had a lot to do with that. I was glad I drove and didn't have to take the ride from the passenger seat looking down over the edge all the time.
Sunday we went to Garden of the Gods which is amazing, also. It's hard to understand how those rocks have stayed perpendicular to the earth for all these year. There were plenty of rock climbers on this beautiful day. Did not look like fun to me at all!
