When I was a Biker

I also have a motorcycle as well as my SS. I saw this on a Motorcycle forum I go to and thought it is relevant to post in a car forum. This is in no way meant to offend anyone, just to open eyes. Please enjoy,

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I was a Biker
I saw you pull your child closer when we passed each other on the sidewalk. But you didn't see me playing Santa at the local mall.
I saw you change your mind about going into the restaurant.
But you didn't see me attending a meeting to raise more money
for the hurricane relief.
I saw you roll up your window and shake your head when I drove by. But you didn't see me driving behind you when you flicked your cigarette butt out the car window.
I saw you frown at me when I smiled at your children.
But you didn't see me when I took time off from work to run
toys to the homeless.
I saw you stare at my long hair. But you didn't see me and my
friends cut ten inches off for Locks of Love.
I saw you roll your eyes at our leather coats and gloves.
But you didn't see me and my brothers donate our old coats and gloves to those that had none.
I saw you look in fright at my tattoos.
But you didn't see me cry as my children were born and have
their name written over and in my heart.
I saw you change lanes while rushing off to go somewhere.
But you didn't see me going home to be with my family.
I saw you complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be.
But you didn't see me when you were changing the CD and
drifted into my lane.
I saw you yelling at your kids in the car. But you didn't see me
pat my child's hands, knowing he was safe behind me.
I saw you reading the newspaper or map as you drove down the road. But you didn't see me squeeze my wife's leg when she told me to
take the next turn.
I saw you race down the road in the rain.
But you didn't see me get soaked to the skin so my son could
have the car to go on his date.
I saw you run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time.
But you didn't see me trying to turn right.
I saw you cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in.
But you didn't see me leave the road.
I saw you waiting impatiently for my friends to pass. But you didn't see me. I wasn't there.
I saw you go home to your family. But you didn't see me. Because,
I died that day you cut me off.
I WAS JUST A BIKER; A person with friends and a family.
But you didn't see me.
This is very true. In the year I've had my bike, I've been cut off 3 times. Luckily, I was paying more attention to other people's driving than they were, and was able to avoid crashes. I know I don't fit the typical biker stereotype, being a youth worker and family man, but I love to ride. I'm getting ready to join a Christian biker club that ministers to the other biker clubs, so I'll be riding a whole lot more. Be sure to watch out for me.
I don't ride a Harley, but trust me we sportbikers get the same disrespect as the rest of ya, at least on the road. Just because there are groups of jerks speeding down your road and stuntin' next to you on the highway doesn't mean every guy (or girl) on a bike is a danger and a menace. Most of the time we are just scanning the road ahead and dodging cars left and right who don't bother checking mirrors and using a quick turn of the head to make sure its clear before turning, changing lanes, drifting in and out of lanes, or running stop lights. I almost got hit about a week ago because some stupid $*% ran a red light, Its a good thing I was stopped and waiting for me turn to go and when it turned green I had enough time to look both ways, put it in gear and then start going as this jack #*@ plowed through the light.
All you riders out there be safe!
My dad taught me two rules of motorcycling when I started riding:
#1) Other drivers cannot see you.
#2) If they can see you, they will try to hit you.
I repeat those rules to myself when I ride and it gets me out of a jam here and there. Luckily I've never gone down!
Yep....you have to ride with the mindset that everyone else on the road is trying to kill you....of course not true but ya need to have that train of thought because 1 cell phone call and a lane drift and you are toast
And wear your gear....I went by a dude lying face down on Rt 3 in MA a week or so ago...a lot of people were stopped and the police were just getting there....he had a lid on(was off when I went by) but he was wearing shorts and a tank top. Jog for a bit and then drop to your knees on asphalt.....hurts no? Now add about 5 to 50 mph to that jog and imagine the same.....ouch...he was rashed up REAL good.
I wear my gear all the time no matter what the temp is...I like my skin and prefer to keep it where it belongs..an hour of being hot in gear is much more preferable to skin grafts for who knows how long..of course I've had a lot of practice in MOPP 4 so maybe I'm used to it lol
I gave up my bike because it just got too dangerous to ride in this area...
Great post. I always use extra care around bikes, even though I don't ride. My father was nearly killed in an accident on his motorcycle years ago, so I try to keep an eye out, and make sure I give them pleanty of room.
I saw your bikes parked outside the bar
So I knew it must be a fun place!
