With the Lights in the auto position on my 06 any time you turn the wipers on they come on the same as jx3 and stay on until 30 seconds after you turn the wipers off.
There is a law here that requires lights be on anytime the weather warrants the use of wipers. That doesn't stop people from driving with their lights off. I used to not care, but it does make it easier to see other drivers, especially those driving gray or silver cars.
"Idiot" lights
Considering how many people without automatic lights who wait until the last possible moment to turn on ANY lights, I think the more control taken away from people like that the better. There's a reason why they are sometimes called "idiot lights" and that is because they exist now for the idiots out there I just described.
My co-worker could be considered a part of that breed to some degree. "Excuse me if you need a pair of headlights to be able to see a big white van coming down the street in broad daylight you shouldn't be on the road to begin with." Well, that may be true but I think the bottom line is if you ask someone, did you see the lights and they say yes then it's already obvious that they helped. Every little bit helps because it's better to be safe than sorry.

Lights on with wipers is required by law here in Virginia.
I would think that many manufacturers are making this a standard feature as more states adopt this kind of law.
For safety reasons it does make sense and takes account for the stupid people.

Well....
First, I would like to say this is my first post...
In many states, there is the "Inclimate Weather" law, where "While the vehicle is in motion, and wipers are in use, the lights must be on." From the understanding that white, black, grey, silver cars can "blend" in to the mist, rain, fog, etc.... It is merely written into law to help improve highway safety.

Just the front parking lights do. I think that the headlights should come on with the wipers just to increase safety. After 28 years of saving lives (more EMS than fires these days), I have come to the conclusion that: LIGHTS ON FOR SAFETY is a good thing, especially on very overcast or stormy days. For those of you who don't know snow, it's a b***h to see through. If they don't come on automatically, some people just don't turn them on. Some of these folks are the same ones who don't believe in seat belts.
