2011 hhr 2.2l coolant flush
i want to flush and fill the coolant system using a flush and fill kit and want to know if anyone on here has done it on their hhr ?

I've just removed the thermostat and drained the system through the rad drain and then refilled with 50/50 Dexcool.

I did install one. It was of no use, best to just flush old fashioned. When you drain about a gallon will be left in the head; rinse repeat a few times. (t-stat removed)
What I do, not recommending, is to flush it out good; then assume there is a gallon of fresh water left behind. Add 1 gallon of undiluted DexCool, top off with water. There is a good argument against this; Water and coolant can stratify and not mix in the system. |

Then glean the bits and pieces from the how-to that you need, to accomplish it. You'll need your tools, 2 gallons of 50/50 premix DexCool, teflon pipe dope sealant, and a new thermostat - Thermostat - (2006-2011 All Models) ACDelco 131-158 GM P/N 12622410 |
Well then there RJ the OP is asking about a 2011, 2.2 , so it's not an SS.
But good advice for someone who owns an SS |
The general procedure is the same, the petkawk is hard to get to on an SS, and the water pump bolt is easy. The opposite is true for LS/LT. And the coolant capacity is different, I think that's the only differences.
EDIT: Maybe the difficulty level of the water pump bolt is not due to the trim level (SS, LS, LT). Maybe it's the auto trans that makes it difficult to get to. My manual trans, the bolt was easy. |
The third post down is the multiple ChevyHHR.net threads

To be totally correct you should buy the $937 tool to exchange it. That's what the "Book" says.
The OQ was about those flush kits. I have tried them a few different cars. I don't see any benefit to them. https://www.handsontools.com/UView-5...er_p_5012.html https://www.handsontools.com/assets/...38_2290367.jpg |
