If you "hear acorns rolling around", I would look inside the air filter housing.
Wouldn't be the 1st time that some little rodent set up house in a HHR. They usually bring a supply of nuts with them.

You can hear acorns in a air filter housing? Wouldn't you think besides the "snacks" they would bring stuffing to make their nest?
I can see that might be happening if the car sat for sometime.
