Any suggestions for a aftermarket airbox and cleaner solution, that uses near to stock type aircleaner, but is a whole lot easier to get at the filter as compared to the stock style knuckle busting POS???...Also maybe a litte extra performance would be nice...stock 2.4L 2LT

 

How often are you changing it? Most folks won't need to do it for 2-4 years.

K&N among others make a cone style filter, with no box.

 

Good luck finding one though...


K&N made one too, black plastic, fit about the same.

 

It constantly amazes me how people complain over something like the air cleaner on the hhr. Seriously, it is not that big a deal to change - its like a 5 minute job to get to the point where you remove the old filter, and another 5 minutes to put it back together.

As donbrew notes, it is something one does every few years - its not that bad a deal.

And to top it off, as many have previously made comments on it, GM did a pretty good job of designing it performance wise.

 

Some just want an excuse to get something shiny to put in their engine bay. I just checked mine and cleaned the maf sensor in about 5 minutes.

The K&N FIPK is almost the same for air intake, just a washable filter, under the lid, just two screws!

 

I have the K/N filter in my stock air cleaner and it is no problem to clean, once you do it a couple of times. My problem is getting a replacement 'flex" hose to the air cleaner, mine is coming unraveled. I was told by someone long ago that the hose by it self is not available.
