Flushing Brake System

My 07 HHR has about 45k miles and when I took my car in for service they recommened to flush the brake system for 79.99 and a fuel system service for 87.99. Has anyone else has this done? Is it necessary? Worth the money?

The fuel system service is not worth it. Changing the brake fluid might be. Some say changing the brake fluid every 2 or 3 years may prevent problems as water builds up in the brake fluid over time. The water can damage brake lines, calipers($$), and ABS components($$$$). I have no idea what it should cost to change the brake fluid out though as I haven't had it done yet.

Do you think it is worth putting a bottle of fuel injection cleaner in the tank that I would pick up from a local auto parts store? Or is that not even worth it?

It wouldn't hurt. If I remember correctly, the Chevron Techron stuff is supposed to be pretty good, and Sea Foam has worked well for me in certain situations as well.

what is the 2LT next to your bottom HHR name? Also, how can I determine what my HHR is?

2LT is an option package. If you have an LT, it is either a 1LT or 2LT. I don't remember for sure what the code is you can look at to determine which one you have, but if you have the 17-inch alloys and 2.4L motor you probably have a 2LT. If it's the 16's, you have a 1LT.

The 1LT also had an option for the 2.4. But if it has 16"s and and LT, it's a 1LT. The 17"s were only available on the 2LT. There were optional wheels available, but I have never seen and HHR on the road with them...... They were expensive.

the brake flush/fuel system service (etc) are "add-ons" which a lot of shops are trying to push (preventative maintenance). I used to work at a shop which also offered power steering flushes, coolant and trans fluid flushes, rear diff flushes, windshield treatments (like rain-x), and headlight restore products (it cleared up hazy headlights). Problem is, a small percentage of the services were "done the way they were supposed to" resulting in non-returning, unhappy customers (not that I blame them, but being in sales meant I got yelled at for someone elses' incompetence.)

I put a bottle of the sea foam through all of my vehicles once a year and have never had an injector problem. It not only cleans the injectors, but removes nasty stuff from the fuel tank/lines.
