If that black felt washer it to thick it will keep the terminal from sliding down far enough to tighten. Battery terminals are tapered, so the further down you push the clamp, the tighter it will get.

Not exactly... your reply did remind me to make sure the clamp was all the way down before tightening! So I loosened the nut, put an oversized socket on top of the clamp and hit it twice with a dead-blow hammer, and it's firmly in place without tightening the nut, but still not touching the black felt which means I need to open it up a bit further & repeat

The nut actuates a CAM. You can easily mess it up by assuming it is a tightening bolt and nut. Probably need to get a new end now.

The battery end of the cable is specifically designed, new cable is expensive , if you replace with a universal cable be sure to reuse the current sensor

Fix has already been found, just had to hammer the clamp onto the terminal before tightening the cam nut. That would be lightly hammer with a 8 ounce deadblow & a socket that fits perfectly over the raised rim on the clamp.

You're pounding on the terminal with a dead blow hammer. Not recommended.

it's a half pound deadblow, it's not going to damage any part of the battery the way I'm tapping, in fact it doesn't even leave a mark on my hand if I tap on my hand the same way I tap on the socket. I can do far more damage trying to shove it down with my body weight....

Don't suppose there's a mod around kind enough to just delete this thread ???

Why delete the thread? I don't see any violations.
