Keyless entry question

New to the fourmsHopefully im posting in correct thread :)
I bought a used 2011 HHR LT this year from a private owner when I bought it there where no keyfobs. I read on a post here saying that the HHR's came with keyless entry systems is this correct? If so can I just buy a fob and program it?

Welcome to the site.

Some formal rental cars or fleet vehicles were known to have that option deleted at the factory.
Look in the glovebox for the RPO codes to your HHR.
AP3 is the code for the keyless remote/start (the fobs and it's program). If your's has the AP3 then getting the fobs and programming them to the car should work.
If it doesn't have that code you're probably out of luck.

Fwiw. Dorman Auto Products sells fobs with a programmer. Cheaper than buying just fobs and having to pay a shop to do the programming.

Except the manual trans won't have AP3, right? Is there a RPO for rental/fleet or how do you tell?

I am not positive about the AP3 applying to 2011 cars.

Somebody said that 2010-2011 the code applies only to remote start, since all were supposed to have keyless entry. That is what I heard, I don't think my 2011 had AP3 but it did have remote entry/no remote start, but I don't have car anymore to check

I found this from another poster on this site. I dont have auto start but dont mean i dont have keyless entry

1)Turn on our HHR to ON

2) press and hold the little Menu button and the left downward arrow button on the steering wheel for 3 seconds, you should see OIL LIFE RESET on the DIC

3) keep pressing the MENU botton till u see AUTO START on the display. (or something simular to it)

4)press the left arrow botton to turn that feature ON

5)now turn off your HHR and on your key fob, press the LOCK button. (u may want to get out of the car for this part)

6)within 2 seconds of you pressing the Lock button, you must press the little uncompleted circle botton on your key fob, the TOP center button and hold it for 2 seconds

7) Your Beloved HHR should turn ON automatically for you.
