KYB Shocks/Struts Warranty

I have KYB Excel-G Rear Shocks 349043, which have 89,700 miles on them. It is suggested to replace the shocks every 100k miles, so mine are at about 90% life. They are on Limited Lifetime Warranty. Did anyone ever use this warranty? It seems that the shocks have to be defective (leaking) and you have to send them to the manufacturer for inspection, which already suggests that you have to buy new shocks before you send the old ones to them.

At AutoZone I get all of my parts replaced without a question or inspection. I just bring them them in, and they replace them once my warranty is getting close to being over. Can I get new shocks from KYB in a similar manner after the ones I purchased from them get worn out, but are not leaking?

Leaking does not mean they are defective. The inspector may just define them as worn.

If they are leaking, they should be replaced. Return them to the place of purchase, they might perform the inspection there, and tell you if they are covered under the warranty. If not, you'll have to buy new.

One Az guy wouldn't give me free brake pads because that's "normal wear". I agree with him, but it doesn't hurt to try. Depends on the guy at the counter.
