I think the OP was looking for (friendly discussion) on the differences and/or recommendations between the different variants of Mobil1. They seem to offer the original full syn, as well as one that's 'Advanced Fuel Economy', and another that's 'High Mileage' (for vehicles with more than 75,000 miles). Additionally their website also shows an 'ESP', or Emissions Systems Protection formula.

I personally do believe in the added value of Synthetic, and use it in my 2.4 with 60,000 on it, even though it's not called for in my owners manual. Having said that, can anyone comment constructively on the differences between the above mentioned variants of Mobil1? I know I'd be interested in listening for a bit, as I'll be at 75,000 sometime next year.

I'm not trying to beat that whole conventional/syn dead horse again. Trying to be more specific, I guess.

Ok, I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance (full Syn) because I only change oil once a year.. So that is what I prefer..

I believe the higher mileage versions (over 75000 miles) is if you START using synthetic after 75K. With another brand, their higher mileage formula has less detergent properties that won;t clean off varnish deposits near vulnerable oil seals.

To my knowledge on Highmileage version I think you are correct. It may be for older cars for the most part.

It is normal Mobil One but has additives for the seal to prevent leaks. Syn oil in older cars that have older style seal and in poorer condition can leak more since syn oil molecules are smaller. They claim other higher levels of anti wear?

Hi all,
I just did my first diy oil and oil filter change on my 06 hhr lt 2.4 auto (just bought it a month ago with 61k on the clock )last night. Changed it with the mobil 1 extended and immediately felt the difference...before the change, the engine feels sluggish...now it's more responsive and pulls better.. Hope it stays like this till 5k miles later.

Btw, I used the mityvac oil extractor 7201 (that was intended for my other car, a clk320) for the oil change and worked great! managed to suck up 5.4Q of oil, almost all in the drain pan I presume as I did not undo the drain plug to check.. Filled up with 5 q and now it's showing in between the min and max line on the dip stick... Gotto top it up later to just below max line.

Now, I do hear the tappets noise on cold engine starts and it goes off once it's warmed... ( wasn't there before oil change) Is this normal? ... Maybe the new oil is still "thick" not as viscous as the old seasoned oil...hence took a while to get to the litters.... Agree?
